TODAY IS THE FIRST SUNDAY IN LENT.  Rev. Hawthorne begins a Lenten sermon series, “Meeting Jesus Along the Way”.  Today’s message is “The Man Born Blind”.  A Lenten devotional booklet, “Thy Will Be Done”, is available to pick up at the Welcome Center.  The devotions will help in our reflections on seeking God’s will in all aspects of our lives, especially during the season of Lent.

MARCH IS HOSPITALITY NETWORK MONTH!  Grace Baptist will host up to three families from the Inter-Faith Hospitality Network for the month of March.  The families that come to us are homeless as a result of spousal abuse, loss of job, or similar difficulties.  Many volunteers are needed to help in the following areas during the month: meals, supplies, overnight hosts, child care, and transportation (weekdays & weekends).  Financial assistance is also needed since this is not a budgeted program.  Please consider how you can help and sign up on the board in the narthex today.  There will be a commissioning service for our March Hospitality Network volunteers next Sunday during the worship service.

WE WILL RECEIVE THE RETIRED MINISTERS & MISSIONARIES OFFERING throughout the month of February.  Our church goal is $2,500.  An offering envelope is included in the February newsletter with extras available in sanctuary chair backs and at the Welcome Center.

THE SPRING “SECRET PLACE” (March, April, May) is available at the Welcome Center.  Cost is $.50 per booklet.  Please put your payment in the container.

  • From Pastor George: Thank you all for the wonderful way in which you celebrated Pastor Appreciation Sunday last week.  Kathy Gallagher’s kind words from the pulpit, the gift card and the reception after church with the beautiful cake were very much appreciated.  We have been fortunate over the years to have so many men and women committed to full-time Christian service involved in the life and ministry of our church.  Thank you for being the wonderfully supportive congregation that you are!
  • From Douglas Hargis: Brothers and Sisters in Christ, thank you so much for the expression of appreciation you gave me last Sunday.  It means a great deal to me that you have a time set aside to honor the pastors in our congregation.  Grace Baptist has a special gift of caring for its members and its clergy.  The reception and gift card are greatly appreciated by us all.

A COFFEEMAKER was found in the food collection box near the mailboxes.  That box is only for food, paper products and toiletries that can be distributed from the Community Cupboard in Ambler.  If the coffeemaker is yours, please retrieve it and donate it to a household goods collection like Purple Heart.

IT’S TIME FOR A NEW PICTORIAL DIRECTORY!  Please send any corrections or changes needed in your directory information to Trish in the church office at your earliest convenience.  Santosh Philips will be our official photographer for new and updated pictures of individuals and family groups.  Santosh has his camera ready to take photos on Sunday mornings or you may contact him at smartsurfer@gmail.com to set up a time for your photo.  You may also send your own updated photo digitally to the church office.

UPDATE FROM THE HAYASHIDAS living in Santa Barbara, CA: We, sadly, have not been spared the severe weather and devastation of recent months here in California.  Neither we nor our children suffered physically but we have many friends and acquaintances who did.  Our 12-year-old granddaughter’s best friend died in the mudslide, our 15-year-old grandson lost Scout master and Scout friend.  Our son’s physical therapy practice has suffered financially and Nelson has been on the front-line with those grieving through his chaplaincy work at Hospice of Santa Barbara and Cottage Hospital.  The community as a whole has and still is suffering much anguish and grief.  Reminders are all around us, as will be the threat of further mudslides each time it rains for the next year or more, we are told.  Please continue to pray with us that the expressions of love and care which are being extended by churches and community groups will touch the hearts and lives which need it and be recognized as the hand of God.—With much appreciation for the part Grace Baptist has and continues to play in our lives, Sandra and Nelson

“REBUILDING, RESTORING, RENEWING PUERTO RICO” seeks to raise $1 million within the next 3-6 months through One Great Hour of Sharing (OGHS) to support rebuilding the homes, churches and lives of our brothers and sister in Christ.  Please give generously.  Donations may be made via your church or via credit card online at abhms.org.  If donating by check, please make checks payable to American Baptist Home Mission Societies and put OGHS-PR and Grace Baptist of Blue Bell on the memo line.  Send to: ABHMS, Attn: Kim Wilkins, Puerto Rico Rebuild, P.O. Box 851, Valley Forge, PA 19482-0851.  One hundred percent of donations go to relief efforts; no dollars are retained for administrative costs.

WANT A FREE PROM DRESS?  Come to the 8th Annual Prom Dress Palooza at First Baptist Church of Norristown on Friday, March 23, 6-9pm, and Saturday, March 24, 12-4pm.  Choose from hundreds of brand new, tags-still-on and gently used gowns of every size, color, and design.  Open to ALL middle and high school girls from ANY school; no student IDs or pre-registration required.  First Baptist of Norristown is located at 445 Burnside Ave.  (See the next announcement to donate a dress.)

DRESSES NEEDED FOR PALOOZA!  Donations of new and gently-used prom dresses of all sizes and styles (no more than 10 years old), shoes, and accessories may be delivered to First Baptist Church of Norristown by March 16.  Place items in a water-proof bag and drop off next to the front door.
